The Parents Television Council, which has led the charge against broadcast indecency, is now turning its sights to TV violence.

It has called a press conference Wednesday to issue a study that, it says, shows a 309% increase in violent incidences in primetime programming since 1998. The study also finds "alarming new trends linking sex and violence on primetime television."

"Television violence has become a paradox of sorts," the PTC said in announcing the press conference in Washington (National Press Club, 1 p.m. ET). "Medical and social science have proven conclusively that children are adversely affected by exposure to it, yet millions of parents think nothing of letting their children watch C.S.I. or other, equally violent programs. Prominent leaders in the entertainment industry publicly decry violent entertainment, but then continue to produce and distribute it."

Among those scheduled to speak at the press conference is FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, a outspoken critic of broadcast indecency.
