Under the deal, Scripps will purchase more than 150 GY-HD250 ProHD camcorders, over 150 BR-HD50sProHD recorder/players, more than 300 DR-HD10060G HD hard disk recorders and approximately 100 DTV monitors.

This announcement follows the fall 2006 purchase of JVC GY-HD250s by WXYZ, the Scripps ABC affiliate in Detroit. WXYZ upgraded its local news coverage to HD on Oct. 4, 2006, and used the GY-HD250s for its HD coverage of the November election.

Scripps Vice President of Engineering Michael Doback said: "Our industry is in the midst of a major technical upgrade to high definition. JVC's ProHD products enable Scripps stations to provide local news coverage—including remotes—in HD. This is the right solution, at the right time, and at the right price."

Scripps selected JVC's ProHD product line because, it said, of its full HD quality and its cameras compact shoulder form-factor, interchangeable professional broadcast lenses, dual media workflow, and the ability to do live remotes via the camera's built-in encoder.

"Additionally, JVC will provide a service facility, Web-based support for Scripps' technicians and technical and user training.

All Scripps broadcast television stations will be upgraded to JVC's ProHD. Its ABC affiliates are: KNXV Phoenix; WFTS Tampa, Fla.; WMAR Baltimore; WXYZ Detroit; WCPO Cincinnati; and WEWS Cleveland.

Its NBC affiliates: WPTV West Palm Beach, Fla.; WSHB Kansas City, Mo.; and KJRH Tulsa, Okla. Its independent station is KMCI Lawrence, Kan.
