SINCLAIR COLUMBUS DUOPOLY DEBUTS HD NEWS
On May 10 during the 6 p.m. newscast, Sinclair ABC affiliate WSYX unveiled a new set the station said is “designed to handle the dissemination of daily news, provide a working environment for their anchors and reporters and showcase the crisp and clean imagery inherent in high-definition television.”
The new studio features a rotating desk with two different back drops, 25 television monitors, new HD studio cameras, HD graphics and the First Warning Forecast Center.
All the news photographers have been shooting with new HD cameras for weeks now, so viewers will see more newscast content in 16:9 than any other station in Columbus, the station claims.
In addition to the new set, WSYX and co-managed WTTE, the Cunningham-owned Fox affil, recently launched state-of-the-art forecasting and weather tracking technology First Warning Weather in HD.
"The weather in Central Ohio can change in a matter of seconds. First Warning Weather’s advance technology allows us to warn our viewers sooner, giving them more time to prepare,” said Jerry Martz, the two stations’ chief meteorologist.Copyright 2008 TV Newsday, Inc. All rights reserved.
