Caribevision Enters Orlando with LP Buy
Caribevision Station Group is moving into the Orlando, Fla., market (DMA 19) with the purchase of WZXZ-CA from L4 Media Group for $1.8 million.
Caribevision is owned by CEO Carlos Barba, who is also the principal owner of full-power stations in San Juan, Ponce, Yauco and San Sebastion, all Puerto Rico, as well as low-power stations in Miami and East Orange, N.J. (New York).
The stations are outlets for Barba's Spanish-language network, CaribeVision, which targets Hispanic Caribbean audiences.
According to the FCC filing seeking approval of the deal, L4 Media owns 18 other Class A low power TV stations throughout the southeast. It's headed by Rich Ehrman.
Lou McDermott, of Kalil & Co., who represented Ehrman in the deal, says that his client is interested in selling his other Class As, whose value he believes to going up due to the FCC proposal to grant must carry rights to them.
